Dariusz Klemens has photographed extensively in Asia for over a decade. He is best known for his photographs of India, and his work has appeared in the leading international press, including The New York Times, The Times, The Guardian, The Daily Telegraph, The Independent, Royal Geographical magazine, Condé Naste Traveller, Voyage, and Cover, amongst others.
His photographs of India have been chosen as front covers for the novels of the leading Indian writer, and Booker prize nominee, Anita Desai: Fasting, Feasting (1999) and Diamond Dust (2000, Random House/Chatto & Windus). Dariusz Klemens is the author of the book Omaggio all’India (A Tribute to India, published by Mondadori, Italy, 2003). His work is held in private collections in England, Italy, France and the USA, and his images have been used for advertising campaigns in England and America.
Sangam, an exhibition of photographs documenting Dariusz Klemens’ exploration of India, was held at the Riverside Studios, London in 2004. Described by one reviewer as “suspended between mysticism and reportage”, this collection of images juxtapose the daily activities of ordinary people with the epic vastness of the landscape in places as diverse as the Himalayan region of Ladakh and Kerala, in the Southern most tip of the Indian sub-continent. A selection of photographs from Sangam is represented on this site.
From Autumn 2006, Dariusz Klemens will be leading specialised photography courses in India through GeckoWorkshops Ltd., of which he is founder and director. Dariusz Klemens lives in the Cotswolds, England, and Milan, Italy.
